Currently I'm sick, this is why I actually have time to post any sort of message on this webpage. Some of you have made the comment that I'm too busy and I should take time to just sit around and watch tv or something. I'd have to say until now I thought that was the stupidest idea ever, however I just decided that I, being fully human like everyone else, do need to sit around for alittle bit so from now on I will be watching every MSU basketball game that I get on espn out here! but besides that, heres the skinny on whats been going on out here!
as of the last post I was working for my last year assistant manager at the Mountain Adventure Center, or MAC. My job was to stand at a big desk and adjust everyones skis when they rent them. then I was promoted to run the kids ski school rentals. At that point Copper Mountain still ran all rentals out of the MAC My rental shop was setup in a conference room in the same building as the MAC, but down the hall. then, roughly 2 weeks ago I got another promotion, which is the one I was looking for ever since I moved out here. 2 weeks ago I was officially promoted from the possition of Rental Clerk to Union Creek Rental/Retail Manager. It turns out that the whole kids ski school promotion was kind of a test to see how I'd do in relation to this new position. my boss talked to his boss, I had a meeting with them, and they gave me the job. Starting last friday, Dec 16. Union Creek began business for the year. This is the far right side of the mountain which contains the most easiest terrain Copper has to offer, and contains fewer snow making machines. Copper opens the center and left side first as it attracts more guests. Union Creek is where the Kids Ski School department is run from, and is where all the beginner skiers and boarders start because of the easier terrain. My job is to manage both rental shops at Union Creek,(one for kids ski school, and one for the general public) and to manager the retail store. I have roughly 25 employees now with 2 foreman, Ali runs the retail store, Chris runs the Ski School Rentals, and I spend most of my time at our major, general rental place, I spend most of my time floating around all 3 stores making sure things run smoothly. This has been absolutly CRAZY as Chris and Ali are really the only 2 that know anything about Coppers operations as they have both been here before. of the 25 employees 10 are Australian, including Ali, 10 are South American, and 5 are from the states, including Chris and I. After the rush is over at 11, 2 of the 3 foreman, Chris, Ali, or I, leave and go board for the rest of the day! In addition to making sure all 3 operations run smoothly, my job is to make the schedule for all 25 employees in all 3 locations, open or close the registers, run reports on all of our rental info, order supplies, and retail items from out warehouse, pay our electric bills, and correct everyones time cards.
The last week has been crazy setting up shop and training employees. I'm excited for this week to progress as I'll be able to get away from operations and be able to get on the slopes more.
oh and spellings really bad because I'm tired and sick and I'm not going to check it, later
WOW! sounds like a pretty crazy promotion. hehe soon you'll be running the whole mountain : ) well hope u feel better and hope your having fun over there
